System Presents Ricardo Villalobos [7hour Set] DJ W!ld

After two sterling appearances in Leeds at System and Cocoon in the Park last year Ricardo Villalobos became a hot topic amongst System regulars. Our March event will see more of the same as we welcome back to the Mint Club one of the most in-demand DJs on the underground house and techno scene alongside support from rising talent DJ W!ld.

Recently crowned the No.1 DJ by Resident Advisor's top 100 DJs poll 2010, Ricardo Villalobos is one of the original instigators of the microhouse and Latin-infused minimal techno genres. Villalobos' story began in his native Chile where, in the early 90s, he honed his unique take on electronic music to create the original sound he is widely-revered for today. As a producer, Villalobos' music also typifies his Chilean roots and has been credited with breathing a fresh perspective into a flailing scene with key releases on Playhouse, Perlon, Contexterrior, Cocoon and his own Sei Es Drum label. Villalobos quickly gained notoriety and respect amongst his peers, including Sven Vath and Richie Hawtin and soon joined rank to become a figurehead of the international electronic community, headlining festivals and clubs across the world. Aside from his otherworldy productions and outstanding dj talent Villalobos is applauded for his maverick approach to electronic music including his oft-debated Fabric 36 CD which shunned the format of a traditional mix CD, opting instead for a skillful blend of his own productions.

DJ W!ld

Parisian resident DJ W!ld credits hip hop, Laurent Garnier and the UK warehouse raves of 1989 as the three most defining influences on his affair with electronic music. Shortly after experiencing the explosive warehouse parties in the UK during "the summer of love" he returned to Paris where he steadily became a regular on the Paris club circuit, djing at Queen and Rex Club. Production-wise DJ W!ld holds an impressive discography, most notably under the Catwash guise with fellow French man Chris Carrier, who working the field between acid, minimal, chicago and sheer madness, have released several EPs on Visitor, Brique Rouge, Crack & Speed, Adult Only, Get Physical and Supplement Facts with widespread support from the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Josh Wink, Richie Hawtin and Luciano.
